Despite the ongoing uncertainty over the national elections, BNP still has confidence in the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, said party Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu.
He made the remarks at a civic meeting organized by the Ziaur Rahman Social Welfare Council at the National Press Club on Saturday (February 8) morning. Dudu said, "A group is systematically pushing the country towards chaos and crisis."
He further said, "After the change of government, the people and the world expected that democracy would be re-established in the country. But unfortunately, that initiative is not being seen. People expected a roadmap for a fair election, but that was not found either."
Raising serious allegations against the government, the BNP leader said, "The extrajudicial killings that took place during the fascist regime are still continuing. The question is, where do the terrorists find the courage to commit such incidents even during the interim government?"
Shamsuzzaman Dudu has called on the interim government to announce a roadmap for the elections quickly and fix the date for the polls. He warned, "If people's rights are not established, the BNP knows how to achieve those rights. If the government does not take the initiative, another fight may become inevitable."
