On the occasion of 'International Mother Language Day', the finals of the inter-departmental regional debate competition and the award distribution ceremony of the essay competition organized by the Kabi Nazrul Government College branch of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir were held today, February 25, at the college auditorium.
Eight departments of the college participated in the debate competition. In the final round, Dhaka and Barisal teams competed head-to-head, with Barisal division winning the championship and Dhaka division finishing as the runner-up.
The award ceremony, conducted by the president of Chhatra Shibir Kabi Nazrul Government College branch Bayjid Mahmud and moderated by secretary Hasib Bin Hasan, was attended by former central college activities secretary of Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Md. Shafiullah as the chief guest. The president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra Shibir Helal Uddin Rubel delivered the keynote address at the event. The keynote speaker said, “We want a Bangladesh where everyone can freely express their opinions. Kabi Nazrul Government College is one of the leading educational institutions in the country, which will become a symbol of ideals in the future.”
The chief guest said in his speech, "Students have been deprived of their fair rights for the last 15 years. We should present the activities of Chhatra Shibir among the students in a more constructive manner so that they understand the right message."
Also present at the event were Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch Office Secretary Hafez Anwar Hossain, Debate Secretary Hasibul Islam Sifat and other leaders of the college branch.
In the debate competition, the champion team was awarded a crest and a prize of 3,000 taka, and the runner-up team was awarded a crest and 2,000 taka. The best debater in the debate and the best debater in the final were awarded prizes. The honorable judges were awarded a commemorative crest for their sincere cooperation in conducting the debate.
At the same time, twenty people from “A” group and “B” group were awarded with crests and certificates in the essay competition. Greeting gifts were given to all the participants in the essay competition. Students from different departments of the college present at the event expressed their beautiful feelings and expected more educational activities from the student camp in the future. Through this event, the importance of respect for the mother tongue and intellectual knowledge cultivation was highlighted among the students.
