Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) kicked off its programs to mark the Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day by placing wreaths at the Central Shaheed Minar early this morning.
At this time, teachers, students and administration officials led by the university's Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral Ashraful Haque Chowdhury paid tribute at the Shaheed Minar. Members of various clubs of the university were also present there.

Later, a discussion meeting and cultural program were organized in the light of the Language Movement and International Mother Language Day at the temporary campus of the university in Pallabi, Mirpur-12, Dhaka. The Honorable Vice-Chancellor of the university was present as the chief guest at the program.
During the event, Assistant Professor of the Department of Bengali, Swarna Dutta, delivered a speech on the importance and significance of the Great Martyrs' Day and International Mother Language Day.
Respectfully remembering the sacrifice of the language martyrs of 1952 for the mother tongue, the university's Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Ashraful Haque Chowdhury said that the teachers, researchers, officers, employees and students of the university should all strive to ensure the use of pure and standard Bengali language in all fields and to protect the Bengali language, promote it at home and abroad and ensure its perpetuation. He also respectfully remembered the students, children and others who sacrificed their lives in the July 2024 mass uprising.
A delightful cultural program was organized by the Bangladesh Maritime University Cultural Club on the occasion. Finally, prayers were offered for the eternal peace of the language martyrs, the universal use of the Bengali language, and the continued prosperity of the country and the university.
