The police superintendent has been accused of arresting the former president of the Jawabazar Union Chhatra Dal in Chhatak Upazila of Sunamganj after receiving an iPhone as a gift. The victim Chhatra Dal leader alleged that Sunamganj Police Superintendent A. F. M. Anwar Hossain Khan ordered his arrest after receiving an iPhone worth 1.5 lakh taka from an expatriate. Accordingly, he was arrested in a false case.
Locals held a protest meeting over the incident. The meeting was held at the Jaua Bazar Milan Auditorium on Friday night under the banner of the market's business association and locals.
The victim, the president of the Chhatra Dal, is named Shoaib Ahmed. He said that his elder brother Shahiduzzaman Sujon lives in the UK. He is in a dispute with an expatriate named Kabir Ahmed there. Sujon has filed a case against Kabir in the UK regarding this.
In the middle of the UK dispute, late on February 3, Kabir's associate Nanu Mia, a resident of Paigaon village, called Shoaib from his house. Later, the plainclothes DB handed him over to the police. That night, he was taken to the police station and shown arrested in a case related to an attack on the police. The next morning, he was shown as an unknown accused and sent to the Sunamganj court. After spending two days in jail, he was released from the court on bail on February 5.
Shoaib said, "After receiving the iPhone from Kabir, an expatriate in the UK, Sunamganj Police Superintendent A. F. M. Anwar Hossain Khan ordered my arrest. I had to spend two days in jail in a false case."
On Saturday, Sunamganj Police Superintendent Anwar Hossain was repeatedly called to inquire about the complaint, but he did not receive it.
