A court has sent a former assistant settlement officer and an appeal officer of Sylhet Zone to jail after the ACC filed a chargesheet in a corruption case.
Sunamganj Senior Special Judge Court's learned judge Md. Hemayet Uddin gave this order on Sunday.
The name of the accused sent to jail is Md. Abdul Hai Azad. He is a resident of Kadirganj village in Shalla upazila of Sunamganj. According to court and case sources on Sunday, a case was filed in the court on March 4, 2018 against former Assistant Settlement Officer and Sylhet Zone Appeal Officer Abdul Hai Azad on charges of corruption.
The plaintiff in the case is Tofazzal Hossain Pir, a resident of Teghria residential area in Sunamganj.
The court took cognizance of the case and sent it to the Anti-Corruption Commission for verification and investigation.
After a long investigation, the Anti-Corruption Commission's investigating officer filed a chargesheet against Assistant Settlement Officer Md. Abdul Hai.
After receiving the ACC charge sheet, the court took cognizance of the crime on September 10, 2024 and issued an arrest warrant against the settlement officer. On Sunday, the accused settlement officer appeared in court and applied for bail through his lawyer.
After the hearing, the learned judge of the court, Senior Special Judge Md. Hemayet Uddin, ordered him to be sent to the district jail. On Sunday night, ACC PP Advocate Ainul Islam Bablu confirmed to Jugantor the fact of sending the settlement officer to jail.
