The much-discussed DIG of the police, Molla Nazrul, who is known to be an ally of the fascist Awami League government, and three Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been arrested. They were arrested from different police units on Friday night and handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) police.
It is learned that on Friday, former Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Molla Nazrul Islam, who was attached to Rajshahi Sarada Academy, was arrested. He was arrested with the help of Rajshahi District Police Academy and sent to the DB office in Dhaka. During Sheikh Hasina's regime, many allegations of immoral use of force, including murders and disappearances, were made against him.
In addition, Rangpur Metropolitan Police arrested Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan and Abul Hasnat, who were attached to the Rangpur Range, and sent them to the DB office.
While serving as SP in Bagerhat, Abul Hasnat faced severe criticism for his political statements regarding the 2024 elections and the suppression of the anti-discrimination student movement.
Abdul Mannan used his power in elections and student movements against discrimination while he was SP in Comilla and Sylhet. Earlier, when he was Superintendent of Police in City TC, there were multiple allegations against him of staging militant dramas.
Asaduzzaman was the Superintendent of Police of Noakhali district. He was widely criticized for his use of force and immoral activities during the elections and the subsequent student movement against discrimination.
Rangpur Metropolitan Police arrested SP Asaduzzaman, the commandant of the Nilphamari In-Service Training Center, on Friday night and took him into their custody. He was brought to the DB office in Dhaka after noon on Saturday.
It is known that after the July-August coup, cases were filed against each of them. After that, they were attached to different police units. An officer of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch told reporters that Nazrul and several other officers have been arrested. There are several cases against them, including murder.
