In a statement today, Monday, February 17, the Chief Coordinator of 'Expatriate Families Affected by Awami Misrule' 24', Muhammad Jahangir Alam Mintu, President Alhaj Abu Sayeed, General Secretary Helal Uddin Bhuiyan, said, "Dr. Asif Nazrul, Advisor in Charge of the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, came to know about the complaints and suffering of expatriates regarding the high price of air tickets during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia."
He returned home and quickly discussed the high price of air tickets and the suffering of passengers with the Honorable Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Within 24 hours, a high-level meeting was held on behalf of the Saudi Arabian and Malaysian governments to decide to reduce the price of air tickets. From February 11 and 13, it was announced through government circulars that the price of any air ticket to Saudi Arabia for expatriate workers would be set at $360.
Earlier it was $480 in Jeddah, $430 in Medina and $400 in Riyadh/Dammam. For Malaysia it was reduced from $175 to $150. For this groundbreaking government decision, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Advisor in Charge of the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Dr. Asif Nazrul were congratulated on behalf of 'Expatriate Families Affected by Awami Misrule' 24'.
The leaders of the organization expressed hope that, "In the future, necessary measures will be taken to prevent the collection of additional money by recruiting agencies for expatriate jobs abroad and to prevent harassment of remittance fighters and passengers at airports in Bangladesh. In addition, officials of the Bangladesh Embassy in Probash will take necessary measures to be sincere in solving various problems of remittance fighters expatriates, including passport renewal complications."
