Ambassador (Retd) Supradeep Chakma, Advisor on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, visited the fire-affected areas of Rangamati Sajek Valley on February 24 this afternoon. He inquired about the affected families and expressed his condolences to them.
35 houses were burnt down in the fire. The advisor announced the allocation of 70 tons of rice among 35 families. In addition, the district administration said that the district administration will provide tin for houses and loans on easy terms, and the district council will provide various assistance to the victims.
When local residents demanded that the school, fire service station, and water problems in Sajek Valley be resolved, the advisor promised to take action quickly with the help of the government and foreign organizations.
Among others, Rangamati Hill Tracts District Council Chairman Professor Kajal Talukder, Khagrachhari Hill Tracts District Council Chairman Jiruna Tripura, Chittagong Hill Tracts Task Force Chairman (Senior Secretary rank) Sudatta Chakma, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Joint Secretary Konkan Chakma, Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Habib Ullah, Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry Deputy Secretary (Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister) Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman, Senior Assistant Secretary (Assistant Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister) Shubhashis Chakma, Rangamati District Council members and other field administration officials were present.
