Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer has requested to arrest himself and send him to jail if Jamaat leader Azharul Islam is not released.
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman made this demand at a road meeting in Bhedarganj, Shariatpur on Monday (February 24) morning.

At that time, he said, "Bangladesh will not be completely liberated with the release of Azharul Islam. However, one oppressed person will be liberated. To liberate Bangladesh, the youth of this country must come forward. We have been oppressed for 15 and a half years, we have been agitating to remove the fascist government. We politicians could not do it. But the power that was created by combining all that suffering, pain, and oppression, under the leadership of our students, Bangladesh has been liberated."
At this time, he said to the youth, "If you want to take responsibility for building a society, you have to come forward. In a society where the youth come forward for revolution, the revolution succeeds on behalf of Allah. I want two things from the youth, one is deep patriotism and the other is fear of Allah. If the youth come forward with these two things, they will be the Himalayan mountain against all conspiracies. Whoever comes to bring down this mountain, their heads will be crushed."
Also present at the street meeting, chaired by the district's Nayeb Ameer KM Maqbul Hossain, were Jamaat's Central Committee Assistant Secretary General A.H.M. Hamidur Rahman Azad, District Ameer Principal Muha. Abdur Rab Hashemi,
Treasurer of Bangladesh Workers Welfare Federation
Muhammad Azharul Islam and others
