Sadrul Ain:
Election Commissioner (EC) Abul Fazal Mohammad Sanaullah said that the new voter list will be published by June 30.
The EC made this information at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of National Voters' Day at the Election Commission building in Agargaon in the capital on Sunday (March 2).
Mohammad Sanaullah said, "The current situation has created a real possibility of restoring democracy. The fragile electoral situation in the past created aversion among the people to vote, but now they are showing interest in voting again."
Sanaullah also said that this year's voter list must be transparent so that no one can raise allegations of a fake or opaque list. In particular, the inclusion of young voters must be ensured and emphasis will be given to ensuring that women voters are not excluded. 'The Election Commission does not want to see night voting and will not accept the authority of any party.'
Election Commissioner Anwarul Islam Sarkar admitted that past elections were flawed and the Election Commission cannot avoid responsibility for them. He said, "The responsibility for mistakes lies not only with the Chief Election Commissioner, but even with an ordinary employee."
He further said, "The commission is preparing for a tough test. The Election Commission will be as tough as steel to ensure a neutral and fair vote. The commission will break, but it will not be broken. The Election Commission will not be dishonest with the blood of martyrs."
EC member Tahmida Ahmed said, "We need to think about holding the vote in an open field so that voting no longer takes place in closed rooms."
On the other hand, EC member Abdur Rahmanel Machud said, 'The Election Commission will prove its neutrality not only through words but also through actions.'
