On February 25, 2009, 74 people, including 57 army officers, were killed in the capital's Peelkhana massacre. The government has issued a circular declaring the day as 'National Martyrs' Day' to observe the day on a state level.
A circular in this regard, signed by Tania Afroz, Deputy Secretary of the General Directorate of the Cabinet Division, was issued on Sunday.
It said that the government has declared February 25 every year as 'National Martyrs' Day'. The Cabinet Division on National and International Days' Celebrations decided to include this date as a 'C' category day in the circular on October 11 to observe this date as 'National Martyrs' Day' (excluding government holidays).
It further said that all relevant ministries, departments and organizations have been requested to implement this decision properly.
