Thirty people from both sides were injured in a clash in the rural areas of Shantiganj upazila of Sunamganj. Police have arrested one person in the incident.
The clash took place in Thakurbhog village of West Birgaon Union of Shantiganj Upazila on Saturday morning. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Police have arrested one person suspected of being involved in the fight.
According to local and police sources, the last time the two sides held a Shirni in the village was last Friday, with people from the Noor Mia and Ashiq Mia factions. That evening, the opponents of Thatkurbhog village, Abdal Mia and Sufi Mia factions, announced on the mosque's microphone that they would also hold a Shirni on Saturday morning.
Tensions have been rising in Thakurbhog village since Mike's announcement. Tensions escalated further on Saturday morning, leading to clashes. About 30 people were injured. The injured on the Abdal Mia and Sufi Mia sides are Abdal Mia, son of the late Manaf Mia, Jubel Ahmed, son of Sufi Mia, Habibur Rahmans alias Habib Mia, son of the late Ashadar Ali, Mizanur Rahman, Sebul Mia, son of Makhlis Mia, Abul Mia, Dalim Mia, son of Monir Mia, Zamindar Ali, son of Syed Mia, Rekul Khan, son of the late Ashad Khar, Fakhru Mia, son of the late Arzu Mia, and Badsha Mia, son of the late Kamir Mia.
On the other hand, the injured from the Noor Mia-Ashiq Mia side are - Noor Mia, son of the deceased Tshai Mia of Thakurbhog village, Shihab Mia, son of the deceased Abkul Kha, Arjan Khan, son of the deceased Ramzan Kha, Matlib Mia, son of the deceased Abdul Noor, Shah Jahan Khan, Akik Mia, Sajid Mia, son of the deceased Isbar Kha. The identities of several other injured people could not be confirmed at this time.
In this regard, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shasthiganj Police Station Akram Ali said, "We have detained one person for questioning in this incident. The situation is normal at present. The clash took place over the organization of a gathering to collect rainwater."
