A special "Task Force Committee" has started work at the initiative of the Moulvibazar district administration to keep the market of daily necessities stable ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. As part of this, market monitoring and operations were conducted in various areas including Central Road and Habiganj Road in the tea capital of Srimangal town of Moulvibazar district on Friday (February 28).
During the operation, four companies were fined a total of Tk 43,000 for various irregularities such as not maintaining price lists, selling products at excessive prices, and not collecting purchase vouchers.
1) Seasonal fruit store: - 20,000 taka.
2) Sagar Roy:- 10,000 taka.
3) Khaled Mosharraf: 5,000 taka.
4) Nibaran Pal: 8,000 taka.
The fines were imposed under various sections of the Agricultural Marketing Act 2018 and the Consumer Rights Protection Act 2009.
Moulvibazar District Administration Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Md. Sohag Milu said, "Regular drives will be conducted to ensure that essential commodities including edible oil are sold at fair prices in the market. At the same time, instructions have been given to refrain from illegal hoarding and creating artificial crises."
Members of RAB, the army, and the police were present in the operation.
The district administration official said that market monitoring will continue to ensure the comfort of the common people during Ramadan.
During the on-site raid, it was observed that most of the shops were mysteriously locked for unknown reasons. Therefore, the task force was unable to raid the closed shops.
