Sadrul Ain:
He got a job as a police constable in Brahmanbaria using a fake certificate, claiming to be the grandson of a freedom fighter.
After 12 long years of investigation, the policeman named Md. Sheikh Suman was arrested after his fraud was revealed.
On Friday (February 28) afternoon, Brahmanbaria Sadar Police arrested him based on a secret tip-off while he was returning home from India through the Akhaura Immigration Checkpost.
According to the case report, Md. Suman, son of Nannu Mia, a resident of Mogra village in Akhaura upazila, got a job as a Trainee Recruit Constable (TRC) in the police in 2012.
He submitted the freedom fighter certificate of his neighbor Md. Hossain Mia to get a job in the freedom fighter grandson quota. Investigation proved that Hossain Mia was not his grandfather.
On October 21, 2024, local youth Md. Farhad Mia filed a written complaint at the Superintendent of Police's office. Based on the complaint, the then Assistant Superintendent of Police of Kasba Circle Md. Delwar Hossain investigated the matter. After reviewing the evidence, the truth of the complaint was found.
In fact, the brave freedom fighter Md. Hossain Mia (retired army member) submitted by Md. Sumon is not his grandfather. The name of Sumon's grandfather is Altaf Ali Hossain. Despite not being the grandson of brave freedom fighter Md. Hossain Mia, the report mentions that he deliberately submitted someone else's freedom fighter certificate and got appointed as a police constable and received all the salary and rations along with other government benefits.
While the investigation into the allegations against Constable Sumon, who was working at Burichang Police Station in Comilla, was ongoing, he voluntarily resigned from his job on December 1 last year, citing personal and family reasons. A case was filed against him at Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station on December 21.
Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Mozaffar Hossain said that Md. Sumon was arrested from the Akhaura Immigration Checkpost area based on a secret tip-off. He was sent to the district jail through the court on Saturday (March 1) afternoon.
