Md. Maruf Hossain, Sharsha Upazila Representative:
In a raid by Jessore Battalion (49 BGB), Indian Phencidal, sarees, ready-made garments, raisins, food items, blankets, car horns and bearings, and cosmetics were seized.
The Commander of Jessore Battalion (49 BGB), Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui, SPP, PSC, said that as part of the BGB's operational activities, BGB's intelligence and patrol activities have been strengthened at the border for a long time to arrest smuggling gangs including narcotics and contraband goods. In continuation of this, today, on 21 February 2025, the battalion conducted a special anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics operation in the border areas of Battalion Sadar, Benapole BOP, Amrakhali Check Post and Benapole ICP and seized a total of 2,16,550/- (two lakh sixteen thousand five hundred fifty) taka worth of Indian Phencidyl, sarees, ready-made garments, raisins, food items, blankets, car horns and bearings and cosmetics.
The BGB captain further said that the goods were seized by smugglers who were illegally smuggling goods from India to Bangladesh by evading customs duties. In this way, the domestic industry is being damaged due to smuggling of Indian goods and the country is being deprived of significant revenue income. It is worth noting that the local people applauded the great initiative of preventing the country's revenue evasion and protecting the youth of the country from the brutal scourge of drugs and the patriotic and public interest operation of the BGB. He also requested the BGB to continue such operations in the future.
