An inter-district karate competition has begun in Nilphamari to celebrate the youth festival with the aim of building a new Bangladesh. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Jyoti Bikash Chandra inaugurated the competition at the city's Tennis Complex at 12 noon on Saturday (February 15).
Chaired by District Sports Officer Abul Hashem, speeches were delivered by Bangladesh Karate Federation referee Abdullah Al Mamun Babu, district anti-discrimination student movement convener Syed Mehedi Hasan Ashiq, founder of Dhrub Karate Academy and Nilphamari karate coach Gayatri Roy, among others.
In her speech as the chief guest, Jyoti Bikash Chandra said, 'Learning karate for self-defense is an important thing. It is not only for self-defense, but also helps in developing discipline, self-control and mental toughness. Also, through this, girls will be able to defend themselves. The district administration will provide all kinds of support to expand this karate training.'
Players of different weight classes from Nilphamari, Rangpur and Panchagarh participated in the karate competition. They displayed their skills in the competition and the winners were selected based on the evaluation of the judges.
