Monir Hossain, Benapole Correspondent: A court in Jessore has sentenced drug dealer Akhter Hossain of Sadipur village in Benapole to life imprisonment and a fine in a heroin case.
Jessore Additional Sessions Judge Mohammad Zakir Hossain Tipu gave this order in a verdict on Sunday, February 2.
The convicted Akhter Hossain is the son of Ohidullah, a resident of Sadipur Ward No. 1 of Benapole Municipality. Court reporter Shahriar Ibne Azad confirmed the matter.

According to the complaint in this case, on the morning of November 3, 2015, the Benapole Port Police Station received information that a drug dealer was staying in Sadipur with drugs. An immediate team saw Akter Hossain at Beltola intersection next to Sadipur Bridge at 10:30 am and became suspicious. Later, when he was searched, the police recovered 120 grams of heroin wrapped in polythene inside Akter's pants.
SI Fakir Taizur Rahman filed a case with Benapole Port Police Station in that incident. Later, after investigating the case, Benapole Port Police Station SI Mofizur Rahman Chowdhury accused Akhter and submitted a charge sheet to the court on December 17, 2015.
After taking lengthy testimony, the judge sentenced defendant Akhter Hossain to life imprisonment and a fine of Tk 5,000, with an additional one-month rigorous imprisonment in default.
Currently, convicted Akhter Hossain is on the run after being released on bail.
