Shoes are being stolen almost every day from the central mosque of Jagannath University. To avoid shoe theft, Muslims keep their shoes inside the mosque, but even that is no solution. Shoes are being stolen from inside the mosque.
A Jabi student said, "Nowadays, almost every day, someone's shoes are being lost. Even if they bring new and expensive shoes to the mosque, they are stolen."
On February 24, after the Zuhr prayers, three pairs of shoes were stolen. It is known that all three pairs of shoes were new, which were bought within the last month. Then a group of students including the three students went to the JB Proctor with the demand to install CCTV cameras in the mosque. Then the Proctor Mohammad Tajammal Haque said, "It is not my job to see this, my own shoes have also been stolen. The VC sir has asked the IT department to provide CCTV cameras."
Then a student present there asked the proctor, "Sir, by the time the CCTV cameras arrive, our remaining shoes will also be stolen."
In response, he said, "A few days ago, a thief was caught, who has a beard and his name is Omar Farooq. After he was caught, there was some calm for a few days, but now the shoe theft has started again."
One of the students whose shoes were stolen is Tanvir Siam, a 17th batch student of the Chemistry Department. He says, "We come to the mosque to pray, but when shoes are stolen like this, we have to face harassment. Even though we went to the proctor sir as a guardian, he avoided us saying that it was not his job to see such things. We thought he would take action."
Another student who lost his shoes, Mujahidul Islam, a chemistry 17th batch student, said, "After the shoes were stolen, I had to walk barefoot to buy shoes, which was very embarrassing. After beating Akash Bhai, we went to the proctor sir and he let us read the policy without judging us. Now I have taken up the demand to install CCTV cameras, but he ignored me, saying that this is not my business."
The students present there demanded that CCTV cameras be installed inside the mosque immediately and that the thief be identified and punished.
