A firefighting drill was held at Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (PUST) to create awareness to prevent unwanted fire accidents.
On February 17 (Monday) at 10 am, Patuakhali Fire Service and Civil Defense organized a drill at the university's central playground to teach university students about fire safety, various firefighting techniques, and the use of fire extinguishers. Students from various faculties of the university participated spontaneously in the drill.
At this time, the exercise was witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam, who was present as the chief guest and witnessed by the university's Student Affairs Advisor, Professor Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman.
The special guests at the event were the university's Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. S.M. Hemayet Jahan and Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Latif.
Special guest at the event was Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Latif. He thanked the Fire Service personnel for organizing such workshops and exercises to increase the awareness of university students.
Special guest, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S.M. Hemayet Jahan said, "Fires can happen at any time. Therefore, awareness is essential in this regard. In addition, if we know the techniques of using fire extinguishers, fire accidents can be prevented to a large extent."
Chief Guest Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam said, "Every year, many lives and properties are lost in fires. Large industries and institutions are destroyed. Therefore, awareness is very important to prevent unwanted fire accidents. Because it is only through awareness that it is possible to prevent fire accidents and save lives and property."
He also said that all family members should know the basic fire prevention techniques. Everyone should know the basic rules for using and maintaining electrical appliances and gas stoves. If necessary, a fire extinguisher should be kept in the house and they should know how to use it.
Earlier, a day-long workshop titled 'Fire Safety, Evacuation and Fire Fighting Drills' was held at the university's TSC.
Fire Service and Civil Defense Patuakhali Assistant Director Md. Mostafa Mohsin provided ideas related to firefighting in the exercise. Teachers, students, officers and employees of various faculties of the university were present in this workshop and exercise.
