The 'Journalism Basics Training Workshop' 2025 was organized by Jagannath University Reporters Unity (JUBRIU). About a hundred students of the university participated in it.
The workshop was held on Thursday (February 20) at the conference room of the university's Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department under the chairmanship of Jagannath University Reporters Unity President Amrit Roy and moderated by General Secretary Umme Rahnuma Radia. The workshop was inaugurated by Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim referred to journalism as a noble profession and said, "In the past, special importance was given to objectivity and ethics in journalism. The truth was presented through news, rising above different opinions and paths, which was able to bring the common people together. However, in the present time, there is a lack of objectivity and transparency in news reporting. Journalists should rise above personal interests and present news. Otherwise, their professionalism will not survive."
Jagannath University Treasurer Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin and Islamic Studies Department Chairman and Teachers Association General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Raish Uddin were present as special guests at the event.
University Treasurer Professor Dr. Sabina Sharmin said, "Through such training, it is necessary to emphasize ethics along with theoretical knowledge of journalism. Only then can journalists play an important role in leading the country and nation on the right path."
Professor Dr. Md. Raish Uddin, General Secretary of the JB Teachers' Association, said, "During the fascist period, some journalists worked as key collaborators of the fascists, who did not have the basic education and ethics of journalism. This is an unfortunate chapter for the nation. Fascism completely destroyed the ethics of journalism. We now have to restore that ethics."
The event was also attended by the university's Proctor Professor Dr. Muhammad Tajammul Haque and Professor of the Department of History Dr. Mohammad Bilal Hossain as guests of honor. The workshop trained the participants on the basic principles of journalism, ethics, objectivity, and professionalism.
