Students have locked the administrative and academic buildings of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) demanding six points, including the resignation of the vice-chancellor. The students locked the buildings at around 1:30 pm on Wednesday (February 19).
The campus is currently in a state of chaos due to the attacks on students. The KUET Vice Chancellor is still under siege.
The university's 98th syndicate meeting was scheduled to be held on Wednesday. However, due to the situation on campus, it was postponed and an emergency syndicate meeting of the university was held today at 11:30 am.
The university's Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Muhammad Machud attended the syndicate meeting virtually as the Medical Center was closed. A deputy registrar of the university confirmed this information.
There were no classes or exams at KUET on Wednesday. Law enforcement officers were stationed around the main gate of the campus. Some students were also seen leaving the residence halls.
Earlier, at a press conference on Tuesday night, the general students made five demands, including a complete ban on student politics on campus, punishment for those who attacked students, and the resignation of the vice-chancellor, deputy vice-chancellor, and student welfare director. They gave an ultimatum to fulfill their demands by 1 pm on Wednesday. They said that classes and exams would be closed until their demands were met.
Clashes broke out between Chhatra Dal and students at KUET on Tuesday. The clash, which started in the afternoon, continued till the afternoon. At least 60 students were injured in the incident. Of these, 10 students were admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital in serious condition.
