A business idea competition was held at Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (PUST) under the initiative of Halt Prize. This time, Md. Tahshin Rahman served as the campus director. The competition was held at the university's TSC Auditorium at 6 pm on Monday (February 17), where the contestants presented their innovative business ideas according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A total of 30 teams registered to participate in the competition. Initially, the teams submitted abstracts of their business ideas, which were vetted and 15 teams were selected. In the next step, these teams submitted detailed presentations (PPTs), from which 6 teams were selected for the final round. The teams selected for the final round were—DORMIX, BUG X, INNOMINDS, HOPE BRIDGE, WAVE ROCKERS, and WHALE SHARK. The teams participating in the competition presented their innovative business ideas and answered various questions from the judges.
The judges of the competition were Professor Dr. Ahmed Parvez of PUBRI and Student Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman. In addition, the university's Treasurer Professor Md. Abdul Latif was present as the chief guest.
In addition, the title sponsor of the event was Ispahani and powered by UNDP, and the media partner was Dainik Jayadayin, Pabiprabi Journalists Association, and Excellence Bangladesh was involved as outreach partner. This time, the total prize money was 10 thousand taka.
BUG X team members Nafiz Uddin and Zulfikar Ali Pranan said about their innovative project that they are working on a natural solution to replace chemical pesticides in agriculture. According to them, insect attacks occur naturally in the field and farmers use chemical pesticides to control them. Although it initially keeps the crop growing well, in the long run it destroys the fertility of the land and has a harmful effect on the crop, which can later enter the human body and cause various health risks. As a solution to this problem, they have planned to control pests in a natural way.
It is worth noting that last year, the Paviprabi Hult Prize collaborated with the world finalist team “BEAN AROUND”, which was an important experience for the university students.
