Firoz Farazi Correspondent Rangabali Patuakhali: The Fisheries Department has seized, burned and destroyed illegal nets worth Tk 1.2 million from the Rangabali river and sea estuary in Patuakhali.
Upazila Marine Fisheries Officer SM Shahadat Hossain gave this information through a press release on Wednesday night.
He said that on the sixth day of the fourth phase of the special combing operation to remove the Behundi nets and other harmful nets that destroy fish resources, the operation was conducted in the Buragouranga River, Sonar Char, Kalagachhia and the estuary of the Bay of Bengal in the upazila.
Illegal nets worth Tk 12 lakh, called Behundi, Charghera and China Duari, were seized in an operation led by Assistant Project Director of Hilsa Resource Development and Management Project, Nazrul Islam. The seized nets were later burned and destroyed.
