On the occasion of the 83rd birth anniversary of the 9th Sector Commander of the Liberation War, a wreath-laying ceremony, discussion meeting and prayers were held at the memorial plaque of Major MA Jalil, a freedom fighter. At 9 am on February 13, the Upazila Executive Officer, along with the brave freedom fighters and the Major MA Jalil Parishad, placed a wreath at the memorial plaque of Major MA Jalil in Ujirpur, Barisal.
A discussion meeting was held on this occasion at 10 am at Uzirpur Major MA Jalil Noorani and Hafezi Madrasa.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdur Rahim Sikder, former civil surgeon and divisional director of the Department of Health, Barisal, and convener of the Major MA Jalil's birth anniversary celebration committee. Barrister Sarah Jalil, the eldest daughter of the heroic freedom fighter Major MA Jalil, was present as the chief guest.
Md. Ali Hossain Sikder Rupak moderated the program and was also attended by Uzirpur Upazila Executive Officer Md. Ali Shuja, former deputy commander of the freedom fighter and former upazila BNP president Abdul Majed Talukder (Mannan Master), Upazila BNP member secretary Md. Humayun Khan, municipal BNP convener Shahidul Islam Khan, member secretary Md. Roknuzzaman Tulu, joint convener Hemayet Uddin Khalifa, former councilor A. Hakim Sikder, retired teacher and freedom fighter M. Zakaria Master, freedom fighters Akram Hossain, Alamgir Hossain Howlader, Aynal Haque, Md. Habibur Rahman, former president of Gournadi Press Club Md. Zahir Uddin, prominent social worker and BNP leader Md. Mamun Sikder, Uzirpur Journalists Union president A. Rahim Sardar, general secretary Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Masum, Uzirpur Press Club members Md. Sohag Howlader, Md. Ahad Suman, Major MA Jalil Madrasa teacher A. Haque. Various social and political leaders were also present.
At that time, the speakers said that the valiant freedom fighter Major MA Jalil was the ninth sector of Bangladesh, the largest sector, consisting of Barisal, Patuakhali, Khulna, Madaripur, Gopalganj and some parts of Jessore. He was the commander of that sector. Under whom 80,000 Mukti Bahini worked. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the fascist Awami League threw him in jail without giving him any honors. They demanded that Barisal Cantonment and Airport be named after him along with a posthumous title. He was the founder of Bangladesh Jatiya Samaj Tantric Dal (JSD) and the National Liberation Movement. He joined the Sammilit Sangram Parishad in his late age, taking the oath of allegiance of Maulana Hafezzi Huzur.
He was born on February 9, 1942, at his maternal uncle's house in Sikder Para village, Ujirpur upazila, Barisal district, and died on November 19, 1989, at the age of just 47, in Islamabad, Pakistan. After his death, he was buried in the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Cemetery in Dhaka from Pakistan.
