The District Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Asaduzzaman Apel, the main accused in the case of the stabbing death of his cousin Ataur Rahman Bipul in Sarishabari, Jamalpur.
He was arrested from the Haripur area of Madhabpur police station in Habiganj district at around 1:30 am on Saturday (February 22).
Police Superintendent Syed Rafiqul Islam gave this information at a press conference held at the Jamalpur Police Superintendent's office on Sunday afternoon. He said, "Apel had been on the run since the murder. He was arrested through a successful operation after his location was identified with the help of technology."
On January 17 this year, accused Apel and his associates attacked cousin Ataur Rahman Bipul and his family over a family land dispute in Tarakandi village of Sarishabari. Bipul was killed on the spot with a country-made weapon. In addition, his mother Asma Begum and wife Mukta Begum were seriously injured in the attack.
The day after the murder, the deceased Bipul's brother filed a murder case with Sarishabari Police Station. Police have already arrested 6 of the 10 accused in the case. In the latest operation, the main accused in the case, Apel, was arrested.
The Superintendent of Police also said, "Law enforcement is determined to ensure a fair investigation and trial of this murder. We hope that the victims of the case will get justice."
The arrested Appel will be sent to court after initial questioning, officials said.
