Police have arrested two friends on charges of gang-raping a seventh-grade schoolgirl in Dimla, Nilphamari. They were sent to the district jail through a court on Saturday (March 1) afternoon. Dimla Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Fazle Elahi confirmed the matter.
The incident took place in the evening of last Thursday (February 27) in Chatnai Balapara village of Balapara union of the upazila. The police arrested two friends that night. The two arrested are - Chaminur Rahman (25), son of Nesar Uddin of the same village, and Abdul Quddus (26), son of Latifor Rahman.
According to family and local sources, the girl went to fetch water from a tube well at around 7:30 pm. The two miscreants who were waiting there tied her hands and face and took her to a nearby corn field and raped her in turns. When the girl did not return from the tube well, the family members searched for her and rescued her from a corn field near the house at around 8 pm.
The girl was initially treated by a local doctor, but as her condition was critical, she was admitted to the Dimla Upazila Health Complex. Later that night, she was referred to the Nilphamari Modern Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment.
Dr. Khorshed Alam, the on-duty physician at Dimla Upazila Health and Family Planning Complex, said, "After the girl was admitted to the hospital, tests revealed signs of rape and injuries to her private parts. She was sent to Nilphamari Modern Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment."
Dimla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Fazle Elahi said, "A rape case has been filed with the police station on behalf of the family in this regard. Two people have been arrested and sent to the district jail through the court."
