Local people have arrested Jerin Begum (32), an identified drug addict and member of a blackmail gang, from a house next to the Sonapur Barabari Mosque in Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila. The incident took place at around 9 pm on Wednesday (February 19).
According to local sources, for a long time, Jerin Begum has been involved in prostitution as well as drug use and business. She used various techniques to call young people to her house, make them unconscious, record obscene videos and blackmail them. There are even multiple allegations that she used to bring clients through brokers and collect money in the same way.
On the night of the incident, locals gathered after hearing a young man's screams and informed the police. When the police reached the spot, one of the men ran away. Since the door was locked, the police and locals broke the door with the help of the fire service and entered and arrested Jerin Begum and a young man.
It is also known that this is not a new incident. On August 24, 2024, Jerin Begum was arrested from Islambagh area of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila on charges of anti-social activities. At that time, she was arrested along with two associates and sent to court.
Locals have alleged that Jerin Begum has been renting out various houses in Moulvibazar for a long time and has been engaging in anti-social activities, drug dealing and blackmail. The victims have demanded that further legal action be taken against her.
