Sadrul Ain:
The hearing of the appeal seeking a stay of the High Court's verdict cancelling the appointments of 6,531 assistant teachers appointed to government primary school posts in Dhaka and Chittagong divisions will be held on March 3.
On Sunday (March 2), a three-member bench led by Senior Justice of the Appellate Division, Md. Ashfaqul Islam, fixed the date for the hearing.
Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman was present in the court for the state. Lawyers Ruhul Quddus Kajal and Muntasir Ahmed were present for the teachers.
On February 18, the High Court ruled to cancel the appointments of 6,531 candidates. The Department of Primary Education filed a leave to appeal (permission to appeal) against this order in the Appellate Division. Later, the court of Chamber Justice Md. Rezaul Haque fixed March 2 for the hearing.
On October 31 last year, the final results of the third phase of recruitment for the post of assistant teacher in government primary schools for Dhaka and Chittagong divisions were published. Excluding the 3 hill districts, 6,531 candidates finally passed.
But after hearing a writ petition, the High Court on November 19 suspended the appointment process for six months. Later, a bench of Justice Fatema Nazib and Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi of the High Court cancelled the appointment and ordered re-appointment on the basis of merit.
The Department of Primary Education appealed against this order, and the hearing will be held on March 3.
This verdict has led to widespread dissatisfaction among primary school teachers who have been appointed. They are continuing their agitation demanding a judicial review. Now, the verdict of the appeal hearing on March 3 will determine the future of the appointees.
