The Nalitabari Police Station in the bordering upazila of Sherpur conducted a special operation late at night on February 25, 2025.
Five smugglers and drug dealers have been arrested from multiple locations in the upazila in a police operation.
The police operation was conducted by a team led by Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sohel Rana.
An organized group is active in smuggling banned drugs, cattle, sugar, cosmetics and Indian clothing illegally imported from several areas along the Indian border in Nalitabari Upazila to various parts of the country.
Nalitabari Police Station conducted the operation on Monday night.
The arrested persons in the police operation are Abdur Rahim (28), son of Jabed Ali of Nanni Paschim Para in the upazila, Shariful Islam Shanto (25), son of the deceased Dulal Dulal Hossain of Nanni Madhya Bazar, and Saiful Islam Palash, son of Shahjalal of Kadamtali Bazar. 75 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from these three people.
In a separate operation, Mustafa (58), father: Abdul Jabbar, son of Mustafa 58, was arrested with half a kilogram of marijuana in a raid in Rifujipara area of Morichpuran Union.
In another operation, a person named Shamim Mia was arrested along with 7 sacks of Indian sugar from Sohagpur area of Kakarkandi Union. Shamim is the son of Abdul Gani of Sohagpur village of Kakarkandi Union.
Shamim Mia, under the umbrella of special powers, had been expanding his business and dominating the Churakabari business for a long time. There are allegations against Shamim that he used to sell the fertilizer allocated by the upazila to other upazilas.
In this regard, Nalitabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Sohel Rana confirmed the truth of the incident and told the media that a regular case has been filed against those arrested in the operation and sent to the learned court on Tuesday, February 25.
