Police have arrested two leaders of the Awami League and Chhatra League in separate raids in Gaibandha. They were arrested in a raid in Gaibandha town on Sunday night. Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahinur Islam Talukder confirmed the arrests.
Among those arrested is Masud Rana (50), former deputy office secretary of Gaibandha district Awami League. He is the son of the late Mokhlesar Rahman of Khanka Sharif in the city. Another is Khandaker Tanvir Ahmed (30), vice-president of the Gaibandha district branch of the banned organization Chhatra League. He is the son of Khoka Mia of Sadar Hospital Road in the city.
Police said Masud Rana was arrested from the Railgate No. 1 area of the district town on Sunday night, and Tanvir Ahmed was arrested from a house on Hospital Road.
OC Shahinur Islam Talukder said, "Two people from the Awami League and the banned Chhatra League have been arrested in the Devil Hunt operation. Both the arrested are accused in the case registered in the complaint. They were sent to jail through the court on Monday."
