Joypurhat District Representative
Police have arrested former upazila chairman and upazila Awami League vice-president Taiful Islam Talukder in Operation Devil Hunt in Khet Lal, Joypurhat.
He was arrested from Banaich area of Alampur Union in 7 Ghatika Upazila on Saturday (February 22).
Police sources said that he has murder cases against him in Joypurhat Sadar Police Station and Dhaka Paltan Police Station in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement. He is currently in the custody of the Joypurhat Detective Branch DB.
Khetlar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ariful Islam and Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Alam confirmed the arrest.
The arrested Taiful Islam Talukder (66) is the son of the late Mahmudul Haque Talukder of Banaich village in Alampur union of the upazila. He is the former chairman of Khetlal Upazila Parishad, former vice-president of the Upazila Awami League and a member of the district Awami League.
Ariful Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khetlal Police Station, said, "He was arrested by Sadar Police Station in a case filed by Joypurhat Sadar Police Station. We only assisted."
Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Alam said, "He has been arrested in a case filed by Sadar Police Station. I cannot confirm how many cases are pending against him right now."
