A huge quantity of Indian silver ornaments worth 1,57,21,500/-(one crore fifty seven lakh twenty one thousand five hundred) taka has been seized from the area under the responsibility of Jessore Battalion (49 BGB).
Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui, SPC, PSC said that for a long time, BGB has been intensifying operations along with intelligence activities in the border areas to seize gold, silver, drugs, dollars, rupees, hundi and smuggled goods. As part of this, based on secret information, today, February 22, 2025 at 0050 hrs, a special patrol team of Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) intercepted a Dhaka-bound Hamdan Paribahan (Jessore-B-11-0266) searched a bus and recovered 71 small and large packets wrapped with scotch tape from inside the bag of 02 accused. A total of 70 kg 500 grams of various types of Indian silver ornaments worth 1,57,21,500/-(one crore fifty seven lakh twenty one thousand five hundred) taka were seized from the recovered packets.
During the initial interrogation, the accused confessed that they had smuggled the silver ornaments from India to Bangladesh. The arrested accused are: 1. Md. Jahangir Kabir Litu (48), father of deceased Kashem Ali, village- Bagri, post-Baghchhara police station-Shasha, district- Jessore. 2. Md. Mehedi Hasan (25), father of Md. Jahangir Kabir Litu, village- Bagri, post-Baghchhara police station-Shasha, district- Jessore.
The process of filing a case against the arrested accused at Sharsha Police Station and depositing various types of Indian silver ornaments at the Jessore Treasury Office is underway.
