Shahadat Babu, Noakhali correspondent:
There have been allegations of an attempted rape of a seven-year-old child on his way to a madrasa in Companiganj, Noakhali.
The victim's mother filed a case under the Women and Children Abuse Prevention Act on Sunday (March 2). The incident took place early Saturday (March 1).
The accused, Md. Sharup (18), is the son of Nur Nabi, a resident of Siraj Mia's new house in Ward No. 6 of Mushapur Union of the upazila.
According to police and local sources, Sharup took the victim off the road to a quiet place on her way to study Arabic at a madrasa in the morning and tried to rape her. Sharup fled when a passerby saw her. Later, when the matter came to light, attempts were made to mediate through local people. The victim's mother, demanding fair justice, did not agree to the local mediation. At one stage, the victim's mother was offered twenty thousand taka.
When asked, Companiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Gazi Muhammad Fauyazul Azim said, "A case has been registered against one person for attempted rape. The police are trying to arrest the accused. On the other hand, the victim child has been sent to the hospital for a health check-up."
