Gaibandha Correspondent Sweeper Colony in the Railgate area of Sakurlar Road, No. 2, Gaibandha city has become a drug haven. Drugs are sold and consumed here day and night. The residents of the colony - men and women - are so reckless that no ordinary pedestrian dares to protest. Even the nearby businessmen are afraid of them. They are involved in various criminal activities including robbery. A group of sweepers from that colony went to the Udayan Press in the area last Sunday afternoon and demanded extortion. When the owner of the press, Abdur Rouf Mia, refused to pay the extortion, they looted the press and severely beat up his son Limon Mia. The injured Limon Mia is undergoing treatment at Gaibandha General Hospital. Protesting this incident, demanding the immediate arrest of the terrorists and the demolition of the drug den, the businessmen formed a human chain in front of the city's Ganasas Market on Monday morning. The human chain was chaired by the general editor of the District Car and Microbus Owners Association, journalist Javed Hossain. The president of the Car and Microbus Workers Union, Mohammad Ali, general editor Manju Mia, president of the District Car and Microbus Owners Association, Robin Sen, victimized businessmen Abdur Rouf Mia, Maruf Hossain, Alamgir Hossain, and business leaders of No. 2 Railgate College Road and Circular Road spoke at the human chain. The speakers said that although the administration is aware of this visible drug den in the city, it is not taking any action. And because of this, unpleasant incidents are constantly happening in the movement of people from different walks of life, including the young people of the city. This is also deteriorating the law and order situation in the city. The speakers demanded the immediate arrest of the terrorists named Sweeper and the eradication of the drug den. After the human chain, a protest procession was taken out to the offices of the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police and a memorandum was submitted.
