BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has called for the completion of minimum reforms to repair the state quickly and for holding elections acceptable to all to return to a democratic system.
He made this statement while addressing the party's extended meeting as the chief guest, joining virtually from London, at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building in the capital on Thursday.
Stating that the country is going through a critical time today, the BNP Chairperson said, "As a result of the coordinated movement of you and the students, the fascist ruler has departed. An interim government has been formed, and the people's expectation from them is to quickly complete the minimum reforms to repair the state and hold elections acceptable to all to return to the democratic system."
He said, "I pay tribute to those who were martyred in the long anti-fascist struggle, and to those who were recently martyred in the genocide due to the terrible repression policies of fascism in July and August. I express my sincere condolences to those who were injured. Although I am in the UK for medical treatment, I am always by your side."
Begum Khaleda Zia said, "The continuous struggle you have made for democracy and my freedom for 15 long years, and the countless leaders and activists who have lost their lives, have been subjected to enforced disappearances and torture, and are still running to the courthouse for justice in 1.25 million cases, this sacrifice for democracy will be remembered forever, not only by the party but also by this nation."
